Surprise, I’ve been keeping a secret!
I’ve been meaning to be much more active on here, but I’ve kind of been living through a whirlwind of emotions and change, and I think it’s about time I let you all in on my big secret…
I’m expecting!
I found out in mid-February and honestly, the news caught both me and my husband, Malcolm, completely by surprise. The first positive pregnancy test was surreal and honestly a bit shocking. I actually couldn’t believe the result could be right, so I think I immediately took about four or five more tests just to make sure.
The news definitely sparked a roller-coaster of emotions. Excitement, joy, and a healthy dose of uncertainty all merged together. This being my first pregnancy, we were stepping into uncharted territory and, honestly, I had no idea what our first steps should be.
Just a few months earlier, Malcolm and I had packed up our lives and moved across the country to Vancouver (watch for a separate blog about this). With the news of the pregnancy, we knew we wanted to be closer to our loved ones, back in Ontario. However, we decided to wait a bit before making any hasty decisions, just to make sure everything was progressing smoothly.
I was able to see a doctor in Vancouver who confirmed what the numerous tests had already told us - we were indeed expecting, and everything seemed normal and healthy. With that affirmation, we decided it was time to make plans to head back home. So, two months after finding out about our pregnancy, we packed up our life again and moved back across the country.
If I'm being honest, my pregnancy has been pleasantly uneventful. During the first trimester, I only had a bit of morning sickness that would come on if I didn’t eat early enough, so that wasn’t too bad. But the exhaustion was tough. Most days, it felt as though every bit of energy was being drained out of me.
Now in my second trimester, things are feeling pretty normal, other than the fact I don’t fit into any of my pants. Oh, and those little baby kicks are pretty weird too!!
So, here I am, back home, preparing for the next stage of our lives. This new chapter is exciting, intimidating, and beautiful, all at the same time. Malcolm and I can’t wait to meet our little one and I’m excited to share the ups and downs with all of you. Cheers to the journey ahead (with a mocktail, of course!)
Love,
